Coastal Turbines
The tipping point for me to run (I wasn’t planning to) was that no other candidate is supporting the conservation of our coast.  With inadequate community consultation just before caretaker mode the Premier announced his plans to ‘rapid rollout’ a radical proposal for our region that would impact the natural pristine beauty and environment for wildlife.

In addition to that my values are generally on the conservative side in that I value, small efficient and transparent government that serves, I value family, free enterprise and believe that community and individuals know how to solve issues more than big government.

The Turbines that will be installed will be the worlds largest at 350metres high.
Currently the highest turbine in the world is made by Vestas at 280m
The Turbines will be only 5.5km off shore.
To be out of sight from the shore line they need to be 70km minimum off shore. In Europe these large turbines are 80km off shore.
Average height of on shore turbines are 120m so the ones off Bass coast will be 3 times the height x up to 1000 of them stretching down the west coast to Wilson’s Prom.
Off shore wind is the most expensive form of energy
The practical efficiency of a wind turbine varies between 30 -45%, and it may rise to 50% during peak wind.

No wind no power / too much wind – shut down.

Vote 1 Meg for:

  • Conserving our coast, woodlands & wildlife
  • Valuing families & small business
  • Restoring the rail to Kooweerup
  • Road maintenance across our region
  • Sustainable housing affordability
  • Addressing the cost of living
  • Health services including preventative and positive

Vote #1 for Meg Edwards is a vote against the industrial offshore wind turbines.

We are fully supportive of considering alternative sites. Eg: The proposed Gippsland turbines cover 700 sq KM. The area of Port Phillip Bay is 1,900 sq KM and represents an already industrialised landscape. Plus has the added benefits of being close to users (and supporters), shallow water and adequate wind regime.
Floating turbines open up opportunities off Lorne, Anglesea, etc whilst being close to existing power lines, eg: Point Henry.
